BANGKOK, Aug 26: The US aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln is set to make a brief stop in Thailand following an extended deployment in the Middle East, Thai officials said on Wednesday.
The carrier has spent more than 250 consecutive days at sea during its deployment, amid growing concerns over the prolonged strain on its crew and shortages of supplies.
A Thai government official, speaking anonymously, said the Lincoln would visit Thailand for rest and recovery.
The Royal Thai Navy said three ships from a US Navy carrier strike group would make a short stopover in eastern Thailand for recuperation, with no military exercises planned during the visit.
The Navy did not identify the vessels or provide details about their port or arrival date, citing security concerns.
The USS Abraham Lincoln had been supporting US military operations related to the conflict with Iran. The prolonged deployment has reportedly raised concerns about crew welfare and the condition of the ship.
The US Embassy in Bangkok did not immediately comment, while the US Navy also declined to provide details.
