MOSCOW, Aug 26: A major warehouse of Russian e-commerce giant Wildberries in the Tambov region was destroyed by fire after a Ukrainian drone strike, local authorities said on Wednesday, marking the second attack on the facility in just over a month.
The depot, located southeast of Moscow and hundreds of kilometres from the Ukrainian border, was previously targeted on July 18, when seven people were killed.
Tambov Governor Yevgeny Pervyshov said the latest blaze completely destroyed the logistics centre and injured two people. A 19-year-old man suffered a concussion, while a 49-year-old woman sustained a broken finger.
Wildberries confirmed that its depot had come under attack and said the facility was evacuated. The company did not provide further details on the extent of the damage.
Ukrainian forces have increasingly used long-range drones to strike targets deep inside Russia since the start of the war in February 2022. Kyiv has claimed that some goods and technical components sold through Wildberries are used by Russia's military.
The latest attack came amid an intensifying Ukrainian drone campaign aimed at overwhelming Russian air defences and disrupting infrastructure and economic activity far from the front lines.
Russia's Defence Ministry said its forces had intercepted 426 Ukrainian drones overnight across 15 Russian regions and Crimea.
Elsewhere, two people were killed and two others injured in Russia's Lipetsk region after a drone fell on a residential house and caused a fire, Governor Igor Artamonov said.
Ukraine has also continued targeting Russian energy infrastructure. In the Nizhny Novgorod region, Governor Gleb Nikitin confirmed that a drone attack damaged an unspecified industrial facility amid reports of a fire at an oil refinery.
The attacks come as Russia continues its own campaign of missile and drone strikes against targets across Ukraine.
