India Condemns Oman Coast Vessel Attack, Calls For End To Strikes On Commercial Shipping
NEW DELHI, JULY 12: India on Sunday condemned the attack on a merchant vessel off the coast of Oman carrying 11 Indian nationals, calling for an immediate end to attacks targeting civilian shipping and infrastructure in the region. SouthAsians & Diaspora The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that 10 Indian nationals have been rescued, while one person remains missing following the attack on the commercial vessel GFS Galaxy. “We condemn the attack on the commercial vessel GFS Galaxy off the coast of Oman earlier today. Of the 11 Indian nationals on board, 10 have been rescued so far, while one Indian national is reportedly missing,” the MEA said in a statement. The Indian Embassy in Oman is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with Omani authorities in the ongoing search and rescue efforts. The MEA also expressed gratitude to the Omani authorities for their assistance. Terming repeated attacks on commercial vessels in the region as “deeply worrisome”, India called for immediate de-escalation of tensions and urged all sides to work towards a diplomatic resolution. “The targeting of commercial shipping and civilian infrastructure in the region must end, and free and unimpeded navigation and commerce through international waterways, in accordance with international law, must be restored at the earliest,” the ministry said.
