Trump Warns Iran Over Assassination Threats As Tensions Rise Amid Strait Of Hormuz Crisis
Dubai, July 11: US President Donald Trump on Saturday issued a warning to Iran after anti-US slogans and calls for his killing were reported during the funeral of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, further escalating tensions in the Middle East.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said thousands of missiles were prepared against Iran if Tehran acted on alleged threats to target him. He also warned that the US could launch further military action if Iranian authorities continued hostile activities.
The warning came as Washington pressed Tehran to publicly confirm that the Strait of Hormuz remains open and that ships passing through the strategic waterway would not be attacked.
Iran has maintained that the strait remains under its control and has demanded fees from vessels using the route, challenging its long-standing status as an international waterway.
The latest tensions follow a series of US airstrikes on Iran and retaliatory attacks across the region. Iranian strikes on vessels in the strait earlier this week triggered renewed confrontations between the two sides.
US officials said negotiations with Tehran remain fragile and warned that any future nuclear agreement would require Iran to hand over its stockpile of highly enriched uranium. Washington also insisted that Iran must halt attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused the US of violating an interim agreement by ending waivers that allowed Tehran to sell crude oil internationally.
The crisis has intensified concerns over global energy supplies, as the Strait of Hormuz is a key route for international oil and gas shipments. Diplomatic efforts involving Oman and other regional players are underway to reduce tensions and prevent further escalation.
