SRINAGAR, Jul 25: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Srinagar on Saturday on a two-day visit to participate in the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrations in Ladakh, officials said.
Singh was received at Srinagar International Airport by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
The Defence Minister was scheduled to travel to Drass by helicopter to attend the commemorative events. However, due to inclement weather, the helicopter could not operate, forcing him to continue the journey by road, officials said.
The two-day Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrations commenced in Drass on Saturday to honour the courage and sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces during the 1999 Kargil War.
Rajnath Singh is expected to participate in the commemorative events and pay tribute to the soldiers who laid down their lives in the defence of the nation.
