PM Modi Chairs 4th CCS Meet, Reviews West Asia Crisis, Directs Unified Response

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday chaired the fourth special meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to review the evolving geopolitical situation in West Asia and assess India's preparedness to tackle its potential impact on energy security, fertiliser supply and the welfare of Indian citizens. During the meeting, the Prime Minister directed officials to adopt a "whole-of-government" approach and establish a unified monitoring mechanism to ensure swift implementation of measures aimed at safeguarding citizens and protecting national economic interests. The Cabinet Secretary briefed the CCS on the current situation and informed the committee that adequate supplies of petroleum products, including LNG, LPG and fertilisers, have been secured. He said the government has diversified LPG import sources, while sufficient crude oil availability has enabled Central Public Sector Enterprise refineries to operate at more than 100 per cent capacity, ensuring uninterrupted production of petrol, diesel and other petroleum products. The meeting also reviewed initiatives to expand Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections, strengthen the National Gas Grid, enhance LNG import and regasification infrastructure, expand City Gas Distribution networks and improve last-mile pipeline connectivity under the Pipeline Infrastructure Order, 2026. Reviewing preparations for the upcoming Rabi season, Prime Minister Modi directed officials to ensure uninterrupted availability of fertilisers and explore alternative sources wherever necessary. The CCS also discussed the safety of Indian seafarers serving on domestic and foreign-flagged vessels operating in conflict zones. The Prime Minister instructed authorities to establish a dedicated mechanism to provide timely information, emergency assistance and counselling to seafarers and their families. Reiterating the need to protect Indian citizens and the diaspora, Modi stressed accelerating efforts towards energy independence through greater reliance on renewable and other non-fossil fuel energy sources. He directed that the coordinated monitoring mechanism should continue to closely track developments in West Asia and ensure timely implementation of all necessary measures to safeguard India's strategic and economic interests.
