New Delhi, July 11: More than 1.7 crore income tax returns have been filed for the assessment year 2026-27 so far, the Income Tax Department said on Saturday.
The department said over 10 lakh returns were filed on Friday alone, urging taxpayers to complete their filing process before the July 31 deadline for ITR Forms 1 and 2.
“Over 1.7 crore taxpayers have already taken the smart step and filed their ITRs for A.Y. 2026-27,” the department said in a post on X.
ITR Form 1 (Sahaj) is meant for resident individuals with annual income up to ₹50 lakh, including those earning through salary, one house property and limited agricultural income.
ITR Form 2 is applicable to individuals and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) who do not have income from business or profession but may have earnings from sources such as capital gains.
The Income Tax Department has advised eligible taxpayers to file their returns within the prescribed timeline to avoid last-minute delays.
