Greater Noida, September 24: At least nine passengers were killed after a sleeper bus caught fire on the Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, officials said.
According to officials, 20 passengers were rescued safely after the bus caught fire while travelling from Kashmere Gate in Delhi towards Mahoba in Bihar.
Chief Fire Officer Pradeep Kumar said the bus, bearing registration number BR32PA8647, was travelling towards Mahoba when it caught fire near the 33-kilometre milestone of the Yamuna Expressway.
The incident occurred in the jurisdiction of Jewar Police Station. Firefighters and emergency personnel reached the spot and carried out rescue and firefighting operations.
The cause of the fire was not immediately clear. Further details regarding the incident and the identities of those killed are awaited.
