New Delhi, September 21: The Centre on Monday informed the Supreme Court that a new office-cum-court complex of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) Jammu Bench has been inaugurated at Bahu Plaza in Jammu.
Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati, appearing for the Centre, told a bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant and comprising Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana that the new complex was inaugurated on Sunday.
Taking note of the submission, the Supreme Court closed a 2020 Public Interest Litigation filed by Achal Sharma, which had raised concerns over inadequate space and staff for the functioning of the CAT Jammu Bench.
The court, however, granted liberty to the petitioner to approach it again if any concerns arise regarding the functioning of the tribunal in the future.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh inaugurated the new office-cum-court complex on Sunday and said the facility would help strengthen speedy, affordable and accessible justice in service-related matters.
Highlighting the CAT’s overall performance, Singh said that since its establishment in 1985 and up to June 30, 2026, more than 10.01 lakh cases had been filed before its benches across the country.
Of these, 9,32,723 cases had been disposed of, resulting in an overall disposal rate of 93.16 per cent.
Singh said the Jammu and Srinagar CAT benches had handled a significant workload following the transfer of cases from the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir High Court, in addition to fresh cases filed before the tribunal.
As of June 30, 2026, a total of 20,984 cases had been transferred from the High Court, while 20,405 fresh cases were filed before the Jammu and Srinagar benches.
Of the transferred cases, 18,392 were disposed of, while 13,952 of the fresh cases were also disposed of, according to the minister.
