Military-Civil Integration Vital for Strong Defence Ecosystem: Rajnath Singh
NEW DELHI, Aug 3: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday stressed the need for deeper integration between the military and civilian wings of the Ministry of Defence to strengthen India’s defence ecosystem and effectively address emerging security and technological challenges. Addressing the foundation day celebrations of the Armed Forces Headquarters (AFHQ) Civilian Services, Singh said greater synergy between uniformed personnel and civilian officers would enhance decision-making and improve the country’s defence preparedness. He noted that while military officers contribute operational expertise and battlefield experience, civilian officers bring administrative continuity, policy knowledge and institutional memory. Combining these strengths, he said, would lead to more informed and balanced decisions. The Defence Minister called for greater cross-exposure between military and civilian officers through joint training programmes and developmental assignments to promote mutual understanding and cooperation. Singh also encouraged AFHQ Civilian Services officers to develop defence-specific cyber tools and contribute more actively to research, geo-strategic thinking and innovation, saying their domain expertise could play a key role in strengthening India’s security architecture. He further suggested creating a forum to study Indian military history from a civilian perspective to generate fresh ideas and broaden strategic thinking. During the event, Rajnath Singh launched several digital initiatives of the office of the Joint Secretary and Chief Administrative Officer (JS & CAO), unveiled its revised Vision and Mission Statement, released the 34th edition of the ‘Samvad’ magazine, and presented awards to officials. Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, the three Service Chiefs and Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh were among the senior officials present at the समारोह.
