Leh, August 31: In a major action against illicit drug activities in Ladakh, police have detained an alleged drug peddler under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act and seized a vehicle allegedly linked to the illegal narcotics trade, officials said on Monday.
The action was carried out as part of the Ladakh Police’s ongoing campaign against drug abuse under the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan launched by Director General of Police Anand Jain.
According to a police spokesperson, Zahid Hussain, a resident of Ranbirpora village in Leh, was detained under the PIT-NDPS Act based on a dossier documenting his alleged repeated involvement in cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Hussain has been lodged in jail following the detention, the spokesperson said.
In a separate action, police seized a sports utility vehicle (SUV) belonging to Tsering Nurbo, who was recently booked in an NDPS case in Leh.
The vehicle was allegedly used for transporting narcotics, the spokesperson said.
Officials described the action as a significant step in the Union Territory’s efforts to curb drug trafficking and strengthen enforcement against those involved in the illegal narcotics trade
