Indian Army Displays High-Altitude Warfare Skills in Kargil’s Matayen

DRASS/JAMMU, Jul 27: The Indian Army on Monday showcased its operational readiness, technological innovation and high-altitude combat capabilities through a live operational demonstration and static display at Matayen in the Drass sector as part of the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorations. The demonstration highlighted the Army’s small team concept, along with the deployment of advanced drones and remotely piloted aerial systems (RPAS), underlining the increasing integration of cutting-edge technology into military operations in the challenging high-altitude terrain of Ladakh. In a post on X, the Fire and Fury Corps said the event was organised for media representatives to showcase the Army’s combat preparedness, technological advancements and operational capabilities in mountainous regions. The static display featured an array of modern military platforms, including Special Mobility Vehicles (SMVs), Rough Terrain Vehicles, All-Terrain Vehicle (Chetak), High Mobility Reconnaissance Vehicles, Quick Reaction Fighting Vehicles, as well as a range of advanced drones and RPAS used for surveillance and battlefield operations. Army personnel also briefed visitors on the capabilities of various weapon systems, surveillance equipment and indigenous defence technologies developed to enhance operational effectiveness in high-altitude conditions. Officials said the demonstration reflected the Army’s focus on operational excellence, technological innovation and self-reliance while paying tribute to the soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during Operation Vijay in the 1999 Kargil War.
