New Delhi, Sept 19: India on Saturday dispatched another 11-tonne consignment of relief material to Nepal to support recovery efforts following devastating flash floods in the neighbouring country, officials said.
The latest consignment, which includes medicines, forensic supplies, tents, hygiene kits, sleeping bags and other essential items, was transported to Kathmandu aboard an Indian Air Force C-130 aircraft.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar shared photographs of the consignment on X and said India continued to support Nepal’s recovery efforts.
“Dispatched another 11 tonnes of relief material to Nepal, including medicines, forensics supplies, tents, hygiene kits, sleeping bags and other essential supplies. India continues to support Nepal's recovery. #NeighbourhoodFirst,” Jaishankar said.
A senior official said the latest shipment was sent as part of India’s humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) efforts.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, India has so far sent more than 130 tonnes of relief material to Nepal and deployed 54 expert personnel to assist with rescue, relief and forensic operations.
Nepal’s disaster management authorities said the death toll from the devastating flash floods had risen to 1,410 as of Thursday, while more than 6,100 people remained missing.
The flash floods, triggered by an ice-rock avalanche near the Nepal-Tibet border on August 26, caused widespread destruction in towns and villages across northern and central Nepal.
