IMD Forecasts Heavy Rain Across J&K, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana And HP Till August 4; Issues Thunderstorm Warning

New Delhi, Jul 30: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds across Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh till August 4, urging residents to remain alert as the active monsoon spell continues. According to the IMD’s latest All India Weather Summary and Forecast Bulletin, widespread rainfall is likely over Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir during July 30 to August 4. The weather office has also predicted isolated heavy rainfall over Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh throughout the forecast period. Punjab and Himachal Pradesh are expected to receive isolated heavy rainfall from August 1 to 4, while very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in the two states on July 30 and 31. For Jammu and Kashmir, the IMD has warned of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph, gusting up to 50 kmph, during the next five days. The prevailing weather conditions are being influenced by a deep depression over central Chhattisgarh and northern interior Odisha. The system is moving westward and is expected to weaken into a depression within the next 24 hours after passing through Chhattisgarh, east Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha. Elsewhere, widespread rainfall has also been forecast over parts of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh over the coming days. The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated extremely heavy rainfall, over parts of West Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha on July 30, while East Madhya Pradesh is also likely to receive very heavy rainfall at isolated locations. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds are expected over several parts of northwestern and central India during the forecast period. The IMD has advised residents in the affected regions to remain cautious, especially in areas prone to waterlogging, flash floods and landslides, and to follow official weather advisories.
