MeT Issues Heavy Rain Alert for J&K From July 19-23, Jammu Region Likely to Receive Heaviest Rainfall
Jammu, Jul 18: The Meteorological Department (MeT) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for Jammu and Kashmir from July 19 to 23, warning of heavy to extremely heavy rain, flash floods, landslides and waterlogging, particularly across the Jammu region. According to the MeT Department, July 18 is expected to remain generally hot and humid, with brief spells of rain or intense thundershowers at scattered places during the late afternoon, night and early morning hours. From July 19 to 23, the weather is likely to remain generally cloudy with spells of rain and thundershowers at most places across the Union Territory. The department has forecast heavy rain, brief intense showers and torrential rainfall in several districts during this period. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Rajouri, Doda, Ramban and Kishtwar, while Reasi and Udhampur may witness extremely heavy rainfall, particularly during the late afternoon, evening, night and early morning hours. The weather is expected to improve from July 24 to 27, with only brief spells of rain or thundershowers at isolated places. The MeT Department has warned of the possibility of flash floods, landslides, mudslides, a significant rise in river and stream water levels, minor flooding and waterlogging in low-lying areas during the wet spell. Authorities have advised the public to remain vigilant, plan travel carefully and stay updated with weather advisories. Farmers have also been urged to suspend agricultural operations between July 19 and 23 in view of the forecast.
