Gross GST Collections Rise 15.4% to Over ₹2.11 Lakh Crore in July

New Delhi, Aug 1: India’s gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections rose 15.4 per cent year-on-year to over ₹2.11 lakh crore in July, driven by higher tax revenues from domestic sales and imports, reflecting continued strength in economic activity and consumer demand. According to official data released on Saturday, gross GST collections stood at ₹1.83 lakh crore in July last year and ₹1.95 lakh crore in June this year. Revenue from domestic transactions increased 10.1 per cent to more than ₹1.44 lakh crore, while GST collections from imports surged 29 per cent to ₹66,511 crore. The breakup of gross collections showed Central GST (CGST) at ₹39,835 crore, State GST (SGST) at ₹47,881 crore, and Integrated GST (IGST) at over ₹1.23 lakh crore. During the month, GST refunds rose 13.1 per cent to ₹29,968 crore, taking the net GST revenue to over ₹1.81 lakh crore after adjustments. Experts said the steady increase in GST collections reflects resilient domestic consumption despite global economic uncertainties. They noted strong revenue growth across major manufacturing and consumption-driven states, including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Telangana, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. However, tax experts also pointed to the sharp rise in import-related GST collections, saying it remains important to assess whether the increase is driven by higher import volumes or factors such as a weaker rupee. For the April-July period of the current financial year, gross GST collections grew 10.1 per cent to about ₹8.43 lakh crore, while net collections increased 9.2 per cent to ₹7.21 lakh crore.
