Sonam Wangchuk Hospitalised After Health Deteriorates on 21st Day of Hunger Strike
New Delhi, Jul 18: Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk was shifted to a hospital on Saturday after his health deteriorated on the 21st day of his indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar, Delhi Police said. According to a police statement, Wangchuk was moved to the hospital following directions of the Delhi High Court and on the advice of medical experts due to his worsening health condition. “As per orders of the Hon’ble High Court and on expert medical advice, due to the deteriorating health condition of Shri Sonam Wangchuk, he has been shifted to the hospital for essential medical care,” the statement said. Police said some protesters attempted to obstruct the exercise while the authorities were complying with the court’s directions, leading to a brief commotion. However, the police said maximum restraint was exercised and the transfer was carried out safely. Delhi Police also appealed to the protesters gathered at Jantar Mantar to end their agitation and vacate the protest site peacefully at the earliest.
