7 sustained injuries as armed assailants open fire near police station in Charkhi Dadri

Chandigarh: Seven people were injured, two of them seriously, when three unidentified armed men opened indiscriminate fire on them while they were in their SUV near a police station in Charkhi Dadri here, police said on Thursday. According to police, the assailants, who were on foot, fired 10–15 rounds at the vehicle occupants. The seven victims, who had just attended a local court hearing, were beginning their return journey when the attack occurred, it said. Police said bullet marks were visible all over the SUV. Deputy Superintendent of Police (headquarters) Charkhi Dadri, Dheeraj Kumar, told reporters that in the afternoon, three men opened fire on the vehicle targeting the occupants. "Ten to fifteen rounds were fired in the incident," he said. Kumar said all seven injured were rushed to two hospitals in Charkhi Dadri, from where two seriously injured were referred to PGIMS hospital in Rohtak. Multiple teams have been constituted to arrest the accused, he said. "At this stage, we cannot say whether the incident resulted from personal enmity or a gang war. Investigations are ongoing," he said.
