US Launches Strikes On Iran’s Revolutionary Guard After Deadly Attack On Troops In Jordan
Dubai, Jul 19: The United States on Sunday launched airstrikes targeting Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), saying the operation was carried out in retaliation for an Iranian attack in Jordan that killed American troops. According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the strikes targeted Revolutionary Guard coastal surveillance and air defence facilities, missile and drone storage sites, and maritime capabilities as part of an expanded military campaign. The latest strikes come amid escalating hostilities between Washington and Tehran over the strategic Strait of Hormuz, following the collapse of an interim agreement aimed at easing tensions. US military officials said an Iranian attack on a base in Jordan killed two American service members, left one missing and injured four others. Since the conflict began, 16 US personnel have reportedly been killed and more than 430 wounded. Iranian authorities, meanwhile, said recent US strikes have killed at least 50 people and injured more than 500. The escalating conflict has also heightened tensions across the Gulf region. The United Arab Emirates urged restraint after reports of Iranian threats targeting civilian infrastructure, warning against further escalation and attacks on civilian facilities. Iran has condemned the US strikes and warned of a “devastating response” if attacks continue, while the ongoing conflict continues to raise concerns over regional stability and global energy supplies through the Strait of Hormuz.
