Three Rescued from Tawi River After Sudden Rise in Water Level
JAMMU, July 19: Three persons stranded in the River Tawi after a sudden surge in the water level were rescued safely in a swift joint operation by the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) near the Peer Kho Temple on Sunday. According to officials, the trio had entered the river for a bath when the water level rose unexpectedly, leaving them trapped midstream. Acting promptly on receiving information, teams led by the SDPO City North, SHO Pacca Danga, Police Post Chowk Chabutra, and SDRF rushed to the spot and successfully rescued all three without any injuries. The rescued persons were identified as Randeep Singh of Jhullaka Mohalla, Munish Sharma of Afghana Mohalla, and Vikas Kumar, a native of Bihar currently residing near the Bus Stand area in Jammu. Officials said the timely response and coordinated efforts of the police and SDRF prevented a possible tragedy. Following the rescue, police urged the public to avoid venturing into or near the Tawi River during the monsoon, warning that water levels can rise suddenly. Parents were also advised to keep children away from rivers and other water bodies, and residents were asked to report emergencies immediately to the Police Control Room or the nearest police station.
