Three Drug Peddlers Arrested in Jammu; Heroin, Cash and Other Items Seize
JAMMU, Aug 6: Police have busted a narcotics supply chain in Jammu city by arresting three alleged drug peddlers and seizing heroin, electronic weighing machines, cash, mobile phones and other incriminating material. The arrests were made as part of the ongoing anti-drug campaign when a Mahindra Thar was intercepted during routine checking at a traffic naka in the Channi Himmat area, officials said on Thursday. During the search of the vehicle, police recovered two syringes, including one containing a suspected narcotic substance and another empty syringe. A personal search of the driver, Mohd Tabish Saleem, a resident of Mendhar in Poonch district, led to the recovery of a heroin-like substance. Another quantity of the suspected heroin was also recovered from the co-passenger, Mohd Irfan, a resident of Raika, Bahu Fort. Following the seizure, police registered a case at Channi Himmat Police Station under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and launched an investigation. During the probe, police traced the alleged supply chain and arrested another accused, Aijaz Choudhary alias Ajju, a resident of Channi Rama. A search of the accused led to the recovery of two electronic weighing machines, six mobile phones, Rs 28,000 in cash and one syringe, all of which were seized as evidence. Police said investigations are continuing to establish both the backward and forward linkages of the drug network and identify other persons involved in the illegal narcotics trade.
