Tender for Udhampur Airport Terminal Floated, Construction Work Likely to Begin in August: Dr Jitendra
Jammu, July 5: Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh on Sunday announced that the tender for the construction of the terminal building at Udhampur Airport has already been floated, with the project likely to be awarded in the second week of August. Sharing the update on X, the Union Minister said the technical bids will be opened on July 10, while the financial bids are expected to be opened on July 22. “The work may be awarded for construction of the terminal in the second week of August,” Dr Singh said. The development marks a significant step towards improving regional air connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir under the Centre’s UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) scheme. Once operational, the Udhampur Airport, along with the proposed airport at Kishtwar, is expected to make air travel more accessible and affordable for residents of the hilly districts. The enhanced connectivity is also expected to boost tourism, trade and overall economic development in the region. Udhampur and Kishtwar are among Jammu and Kashmir’s prominent tourist destinations, attracting thousands of visitors every year for their scenic landscapes and adventure tourism. The UDAN scheme aims to improve regional connectivity by linking smaller cities and towns through subsidised air services, making air travel affordable for the common citizen.
