Sudden Flood Hits Northern Nepal, Border Areas Devastated; Alert Issued

KATHMANDU, Aug 26: A sudden and massive flood swept through northern Nepal on Wednesday morning, causing extensive damage in border settlements and prompting authorities to place several downstream districts on high alert.

The flood surged through the Bhote Koshi River at around 9 am local time after a sudden rise in water levels, with the flow reportedly coming from the direction of Tibet.

The Nepal Army said the flooding caused widespread destruction in Timure in Rasuwa district and the nearby Syafrubesi area.

Several vehicles, goods and other property were reportedly swept away by the powerful current.

Authorities have issued alerts in downstream areas and are monitoring the situation amid concerns over further flooding.
