Student Opens Fire at Thailand High School; Casualties Reported

BANGKOK, Aug 7: A student allegedly opened fire at a high school in Thailand’s Nonthaburi province on Friday, leaving multiple people dead and injured, authorities said.

Royal Thai Police spokesperson Trairong Piwpan confirmed that the shooting took place at Debsirin Nonthaburi School, located northwest of Bangkok.

Interior Ministry Permanent Secretary Arsit Sampantharat told local broadcaster PPTV that the suspected shooter was a student who remained inside the school following the incident.

Authorities confirmed that there were casualties, including deaths and injuries, but did not immediately disclose the exact number of victims or provide further details.

Police rushed to the school and launched an emergency response as the situation unfolded.

The incident comes months after a 17-year-old stole a firearm from police and opened fire at a public high school in southern Thailand in February, killing one person and injuring two others during a two-hour hostage situation.
