According to the prosecution, Sharma was abducted and killed on February 25, 2020, during the communal violence in northeast Delhi. His body was later recovered from a nearby drain. The court found that the prosecution had established Hussain’s role in the crime based on witness testimony and other evidence.
The judgment, delivered more than six years after the riots, followed the examination of numerous witnesses and extensive documentary and forensic evidence. The court observed that the killing was carried out by an unlawful assembly during the riots.
The quantum of sentence is expected to be decided in a separate hearing.
