Jammu, Sep 8 : Six suspects linked with an infamous crime syndicate were arrested here on Monday, with police seizing three pistols and five sharp-edged weapons from them, an official said.
Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Anna Sinha said the accused persons -- allegedly associated with the 'Khauf gang' -- brandished pistols and 'tokas' (cleavers) while travelling on three motorcycles in Arnia area in Jammu outskirts, and threatened to kill certain people.
Taking cognisance of the incident, Arnia police station personnel launched an inquiry in the matter.
"The available CCTV footage was meticulously scrutinised and back-tracked, covering various points along the route taken by the suspects from the place of occurrence. Clear snapshots of the suspects were subsequently extracted from the footage and circulated among reliable local sources," the officer said.
Based on reliable intelligence, all six accused were rounded up for questioning within 72 hours of the incident and subsequently arrested, the SP said.
She said further investigation is in progress to uncover backward and forward linkages.
The SP cautioned parents to ensure their children stay away from gangsterism and focus on education and fitness -- else they shall be taken to task. "Youth must be cultivated to become true assets to society, instead of becoming agents of anti-national elements," she said.
