Hoshiarpur, Sept 19: A 33-year-old shopkeeper was injured after two unidentified men allegedly opened fire at him inside his cloth shop in Mahilpur town of Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district, police said on Saturday.
The victim, identified as Jasvir Singh, was at his shop with his brother Paramjit Singh when the incident took place on Friday evening.
According to police, two unidentified men arrived at the shop on a motorcycle. While one of them stayed outside with the vehicle, the other entered the shop after partially opening its glass door and allegedly fired a pistol at Jasvir Singh.
The bullet hit Singh in his left thigh, causing him to fall to the floor. The attackers then fled from the spot on their motorcycle, police said.
Singh was subsequently taken to a private hospital in Hoshiarpur, where he is undergoing treatment.
The Mahilpur police have registered an FIR against unidentified persons under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Surinder Pal, the investigating officer, said police are examining CCTV footage from the area to identify the assailants.
Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the accused, police said.
