Schools Shut in Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban Amid Heavy Rainfall and Adverse Weather

JAMMU, Aug 1: Authorities in the districts of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban on Saturday ordered the closure of all government and private schools as a precautionary measure in view of heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions. Separate orders were issued by the district administrations directing educational institutions to remain closed for the day to ensure the safety of students, teachers and staff. In Kishtwar, the official order cited persistent heavy rainfall, slippery road conditions and the risk of shooting stones as major concerns, posing a threat to commuters and school-going children. Similar directives were issued in Doda and Ramban, where authorities also decided to suspend physical classes due to the prevailing weather conditions and the possibility of rain-related incidents. Despite the closure of schools, the administrations instructed all educational institutions to continue academic activities through online classes to minimise disruption to studies. “All Heads of Institutions shall ensure that online classes are conducted effectively through appropriate digital platforms so that the academic activities of students remain uninterrupted,” the Chief Education Officer, Kishtwar, said in the order. The decision comes as the Chenab Valley continues to receive widespread rainfall, with the Meteorological Department forecasting more showers and warning of possible flash floods, landslides, mudslides and shooting stones in vulnerable areas. Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during the ongoing spell of inclement weather.
