Schools Reopen Across Kashmir After 20-Day Closure

SRINAGAR, Jul 27: Schools across Kashmir reopened on Monday after remaining closed for 20 days due to an intense heatwave followed by heavy rainfall that disrupted normal academic activities across the Valley. Students, dressed in their school uniforms, returned to classrooms early in the morning as educational institutions resumed normal functioning. The reopening brought relief to parents, teachers and students after an extended break caused by adverse weather conditions. The schools were initially closed on July 6 for 13 days as Kashmir experienced an unusually severe heatwave, with temperatures soaring well above the seasonal average. The closure was later extended following heavy rains that affected several parts of the Valley, prompting authorities to prioritise the safety of students. With weather conditions improving, schools resumed classes amid normal attendance, marking a return to routine academic schedules. Education authorities have advised institutions to ensure a smooth transition back to regular teaching while continuing to monitor weather updates.
