Punjab Police Bust Alleged Pakistan-Linked BKI Terror Module, Arrest Key Operative

CHANDIGARH, July 26: Punjab Police on Sunday claimed to have busted an alleged ISI-backed Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module and arrested its key operative during a joint operation in Jalandhar, thwarting what officials described as a major terror plot. Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said the operation was carried out jointly by Counter Intelligence Jalandhar and Jalandhar Rural Police. He said the module was allegedly being operated by foreign-based handlers. During the operation, police recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) containing 1.3 kg of high explosive, along with shrapnel and ball bearings. According to the DGP, the recovery indicates preparations for a high-impact attack intended to disturb public peace. “The timely operation has averted a major terror threat and saved innocent lives,” Yadav said in a post on X. An FIR has been registered at Patara Police Station in Jalandhar Rural under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Explosive Substances Act, and the Arms Act. Police said investigations are continuing to identify the alleged foreign handlers, local support network and other links connected to the case. The DGP reiterated that Punjab Police remains committed to dismantling terror networks, curbing organised crime and ensuring peace and security across the state.
