Policeman Dismissed Over Alleged Role in Narcotics Smuggling

Jammu: A Selection Grade constable of the Jammu and Kashmir Police has been dismissed from service for his alleged involvement in a narcotics smuggling case in Kathua district, officials said on Tuesday. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua, Mohita Sharma, ordered the dismissal of Aftab Ahmed, a resident of Reasi district, reiterating the Police's zero-tolerance policy against drug-related offences. According to a police spokesperson, the action followed a departmental inquiry conducted in connection with an FIR registered under various provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Billawar Police Station earlier this year. The constable was allegedly apprehended with heroin during a police checking operation and was placed under suspension with immediate effect on April 8 on charges of grave misconduct and indiscipline. A departmental inquiry was subsequently initiated and assigned to the Superintendent of Police (Operations), who submitted the inquiry report on July 27, confirming the allegations and recommending his dismissal from service. Acting under Rule 335 of the Jammu and Kashmir Police Rules, the SSP ordered the constable's immediate dismissal. Police said the action is intended to uphold institutional discipline and serve as a strong deterrent against the involvement of police personnel in narcotics-related offences, reaffirming the department's commitment to combating the drug menace.
