SRINAGAR, SEPT 17: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday said the Union Territory has witnessed significant infrastructure development and implementation of welfare schemes under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Speaking to a select group of reporters in Srinagar on the occasion of the Prime Minister’s birthday, Sinha highlighted developments in infrastructure, welfare and economic growth across the country and Jammu and Kashmir.
Referring to India’s economic progress, the LG said the country had moved from being described among the “Fragile 5” economies to the “Top 5” and cited an economic growth rate of 7.8 per cent.
“Especially in J&K, I think it is due to the leadership of the Prime Minister,” Sinha said, referring to the infrastructure projects undertaken across the Union Territory.
He said several welfare initiatives have benefited people across the country, including the provision of free foodgrains to around 80 crore people and LPG connections to 11 crore households. According to Sinha, these schemes have also been implemented in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Lieutenant Governor said infrastructure development in J&K has accelerated, with road and tunnel projects worth more than ₹1.5 lakh crore currently underway.
He also highlighted the completion of the long-awaited railway connectivity between Kashmir and the rest of the country, describing it as the fulfilment of a long-pending objective.
Earlier in the day, Sinha visited the Palaash and Pareesha Child Care Institutions in Srinagar, where he celebrated the Prime Minister’s birthday with children and distributed gifts.
He also appealed to people to participate actively in the month-long programmes being organised to mark Prime Minister Modi’s birthday, saying the events should be made more meaningful and engaging.
