NHAI Restores Two-Lane Traffic at Ladha, Samroli on NH-44 Following Overnight Landslide

Udhampur, 27 July 2026: A fresh landslide triggered by heavy rainfall occurred at Ladha near Samroli on the Udhampur–Chenani section of NH-44 at around 11:00 PM on 26 July 2026, completely blocking the operational two-lane highway. NHAI responded immediately by deploying men and machinery to the affected location. Despite difficult weather conditions and continuous debris, clearance operations were carried out on a war footing. By around 3:00 AM on 27 July 2026, the road was cleared sufficiently to restore single-lane traffic, allowing stranded vehicles to move in a regulated manner. Keeping the safety and convenience of road users as the top priority, NHAI continued round-the-clock restoration efforts. On the morning of 27 July 2026, the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra convoy was safely facilitated through the affected stretch. Simultaneously, additional clearance work was undertaken alongside the ongoing single-lane traffic movement to restore the full carriageway. With sustained efforts by the deployed teams, two-lane traffic movement was successfully restored within six hours, and traffic is now moving smoothly on both lanes. As the ground remains saturated due to persistent rainfall, NHAI teams continue to monitor the location closely. Minor dressing works, including the regular placement of stones and boulders on the wet surface wherever required, are being carried out to maintain a safe and smooth riding surface. Men and machinery remain stationed at the site to respond immediately to any further weather-related incidents. NHAI advises commuters to drive cautiously, follow traffic advisories, and cooperate with on-site personnel while travelling through vulnerable stretches during the ongoing monsoon season.
