Nearly 1,000 Drug Cases Registered, 1,140 Arrested Under Nasha Mukt J&K Campaign: IGP Tuti
Jammu, Jul 7: The Jammu Zone Police have registered nearly 1,000 cases, arrested more than 1,140 accused, and seized a substantial quantity of narcotics since the launch of the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan on April 11, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bhim Sen Tuti said on Tuesday.
The 100-day anti-drug campaign, launched by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, aims to eliminate drug abuse and dismantle narcotics trafficking networks across Jammu and Kashmir through a combination of strict enforcement, rehabilitation, and public awareness.
Sharing details of the crackdown, IGP Tuti said the Jammu Zone, covering ten districts, has registered 962 NDPS cases and arrested 1,140 persons involved in drug-related offences.
Police have seized 15 kg of heroin, 49 kg of ganja, 30 kg of poppy straw, and 6 kg of charas during the campaign.
The IGP said 30 drug offenders have been detained under the PIT NDPS Act, while 82 properties linked to drug traffickers have been attached. Authorities have also destroyed illegal narcotic cultivation spread over 140 kanals, cancelled 121 driving licences, and blacklisted 153 vehicle registration certificates.
As part of the enforcement drive, police inspected 4,045 chemist and druggist shops across the Jammu region.
IGP Tuti added that 2,125 awareness programmes have been organised with the participation of lakhs of people, highlighting the campaign’s strong focus on community engagement alongside strict action against drug traffickers.
The anti-drug mission continues to follow a three-pronged strategy of public awareness, rehabilitation of addicts, and zero-tolerance enforcement to curb the menace of narcotics in the Union Territory.
