MeT Forecasts Heavy Rain, Flash Flood Risk in J&K from July 28-31

SRINAGAR, Jul 27: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast a fresh spell of rain and thundershowers across Jammu and Kashmir from July 28 to 31, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall, flash floods, landslides and mudslides in vulnerable areas. War& Conflict According to the MeT Department, July 27 is likely to witness rain and thundershowers at many places towards the late afternoon and evening, with weather expected to improve thereafter. In the Kashmir Division, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at most places from July 28 to 31, with brief spells of intense rainfall likely in a few districts, mainly during early mornings and late afternoons or evenings. The Jammu Division is expected to experience light to moderate rainfall at most places, while a few districts may receive heavy to torrential rain accompanied by intense showers. Udhampur and adjoining areas are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall, with peak weather activity expected on July 30 and 31. The forecast also indicates intermittent rain and thundershowers across the Union Territory on August 1-2, while August 3-4 may see another spell of heavy rain and intense showers over parts of the Jammu region. The MeT Department warned that torrential rain and intense showers during July 28-31 could trigger flash floods, landslides and mudslides in vulnerable areas, particularly in the Jammu division. The department has advised residents, tourists, pilgrims, travellers and transporters to follow official advisories, monitor weather updates and avoid travel through landslide-prone and flood-vulnerable areas during the forecast period.
