Srinagar: Police on Monday arrested a man for trying to frame the husband of his former girlfriend in a drug case by sending a narcotics consignment to his home in Ganderbal district here.
A police spokesperson said during the investigation, it emerged that the consignment was arranged as part of a conspiracy to implicate the consignee in a false drug case.
"Investigation revealed the involvement of his (consignee) wife's former partner, who allegedly arranged the consignment through a contact based outside the Union Territory. The accused, identified as Tariq Ahmad Sofi of Zainakot in Srinagar, has been apprehended," he said.
The official said on Saturday, Police Station Safapora received information regarding a suspicious parcel dispatched from outside Jammu and Kashmir and addressed to a resident of Safapora. "FIR under relevant sections of the NDPS Act was registered, and investigation was taken up," he said.
The spokesperson said the parcel was intercepted at Post Office Safapora and opened as per procedure in the presence of the Executive Magistrate, FSL and Crime teams, along with a sniffer dog squad.
"The suspected contraband was seized, and samples were forwarded for confirmatory analysis, which confirmed the contents as approximately four kg of cocaine-mixed powder, 80 grams of charas, and psychotropic tablets," he said.
The spokesperson said further investigation is underway to establish the complete network, the source of the narcotics and the role of other persons involved.
