SRINAGAR, Aug 7: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday extended greetings to weavers and craftspeople of Jammu and Kashmir and across the country on the occasion of National Handloom Day, lauding their invaluable contribution to preserving India’s rich cultural heritage and traditional craftsmanship.
In a message shared by the Office of the Lieutenant Governor on X, Sinha praised the creativity, dedication and skill of handloom artisans, saying their work reflects India’s vibrant cultural identity and centuries-old traditions.
“On National Handloom Day, we celebrate the rich cultural heritage, creativity and craftsmanship of our weavers and craftspeople. Let us acknowledge and admire their invaluable contribution and resolve to preserve our handloom traditions while empowering the artisans who keep them alive,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
He stressed the need for collective efforts to protect India’s handloom legacy while ensuring the economic empowerment and welfare of artisans who continue to sustain the traditional handloom sector.
The Lieutenant Governor said the handloom industry is not only a vital source of livelihood for thousands of families but also a symbol of India’s cultural richness and artistic excellence. He urged people to support local weavers and promote indigenous handloom products to preserve the country’s unique weaving traditions.
National Handloom Day is observed every year on August 7 to honour the contribution of weavers and raise awareness about the importance of the handloom sector in India’s cultural and economic development.
