Srinagar, Aug 14: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday urged security agencies to take reported terror threats against Kashmiri Pandit employees in the Valley seriously and ensure their safety.
War & ConflictAbdullah said that despite repeated claims that militancy has ended in Jammu and Kashmir, the emergence of fresh threats raises serious questions about the security situation.
“We have been hearing time and again that militancy has ended in J-K, that now no one (terrorist) is left. But then this threat comes, so where is this threat from? Those responsible for security arrangements should not take these threats lightly,” he told reporters in Srinagar.
The Chief Minister called for strict action against those issuing or facilitating such threats and stressed the need for comprehensive security arrangements for Kashmiri Pandit employees working in the Valley.
Recalling targeted killings carried out in the past, Abdullah said members of the minority community had faced attacks, prompting fear among employees and forcing some to consider leaving the Valley.
He said the government and security agencies must ensure that such a situation does not recur and that Kashmiri Pandit workers are provided adequate protection.
“This threat should not be taken lightly. Action should be taken against the people behind this, and full security arrangements should be kept for these people,” Abdullah said.
The Chief Minister’s remarks come amid renewed concerns over the security of minority employees in the Valley and calls for stronger preventive measures against potential targeted attacks.
