Anantnag, Sept 19: Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested seven alleged drug peddlers in separate operations in Anantnag district and recovered a substantial quantity of contraband substances from their possession.
In the first operation, a police team from Police Station Srigufwara intercepted three alleged drug peddlers at Hatigam Crossing while they were travelling on a scooter. The accused were identified as Jahangir Ayoub, Amanul Azam and Sahib Amin.
During a search, police recovered 1.378 kg of ganja and 12 grams of charas from their possession.
In another operation at Nowshara Crossing, the Srigufwara police apprehended two alleged drug peddlers identified as Basit Rashid Bhat and Mujeeb Mudasir Bhat. Police said 1.740 kg of ganja was recovered from them.
Meanwhile, a team from Police Post Sherbagh apprehended Mohd Rafiq Mochi, a resident of Furrah, Mirbazaar, at Sarnal Chicken Mohalla on High Ground Road. During the search, police recovered 20 grams of charas from his possession.
In a separate action, personnel from Police Post Sangam apprehended Muna, a resident of Kehri Lakempora, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, in the Sangam area. Police said the accused attempted to flee but was apprehended. A search led to the recovery of 23 grams of charas.
Police have registered cases under relevant sections of law at the respective police stations and initiated further investigations.
J&K Police said they remain committed to tackling drug trafficking and peddling and will continue taking legal action against those involved in the illegal drug trade.
