Jammu Police Seize Banned Chinese Manja, Arrest Shopkeeper in Domana
JAMMU, Aug 1: Jammu Police on Friday seized five rolls of banned Chinese plastic manja (Gattu) and arrested a shopkeeper during a raid in the Domana area as part of its ongoing drive against the sale of hazardous materials. According to police, acting on specific information, a team from Police Station Domana conducted a raid at a shop in Purkhoo Camp and apprehended Rajeev Singh Slathia, a resident of Domana. During the search, police recovered and seized five rolls of banned Chinese plastic manja from the shop. Authorities said the sale, storage and use of Chinese manja have been prohibited under orders issued by the District Magistrate, Jammu, due to the serious risks posed by the synthetic thread. The sharp, non-biodegradable manja has been responsible for causing severe injuries and fatalities to pedestrians, two-wheeler riders, children and birds, making its use a significant public safety concern. A case has been registered under the relevant provisions of law, and further investigation is underway. Jammu Police reiterated its commitment to enforcing the ban and warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found involved in the sale, storage, transportation or use of banned Chinese manja. Police also appealed to the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and report any illegal sale or use of Chinese manja to the nearest police station.
