Indian Truck Driver Found Dead in Canada; Police Probe Suspected Homicide
OTTAWA, July 19: A 29-year-old Indian truck driver has been found dead under suspicious circumstances in Canada’s Hamilton city, with police launching a homicide investigation into the case.
The deceased, identified as Taranpreet Singh Sidhu, was discovered on Wednesday in a culvert in the Stoney Creek area of Hamilton, around 500 kilometres southeast of Ottawa.
According to Hamilton Police, Sidhu had immigrated to Canada from India in 2022 and was residing in Brampton. He had also previously lived in Halifax.
Investigators believe Sidhu was not killed at the location where his body was found. Hamilton Police are working with Peel Regional Police as part of the ongoing homicide investigation.
Police have conducted a video canvass of the area, interviewed witnesses, and are pursuing multiple leads. An autopsy carried out on Thursday led investigators to suspect foul play, although the exact cause of death has not been disclosed.
Authorities have not released details about the vehicle believed to have been used to transport Sidhu’s body, saying the investigation is still underway.
Police have appealed to anyone who had contact with Sidhu in the days leading up to his death to come forward with information that could assist the investigation.
