LONDON, Aug 6: An Indian-origin heart surgeon, who was jailed for sexually assaulting female colleagues at an NHS hospital in northern England, has been struck off from practising medicine in the United Kingdom.
Dr Amal Krishna Bose, 55, was sentenced to six years in prison in September last year after being convicted of 12 counts of sexual assault involving five female members of staff at Blackpool Victoria Hospital in Lancashire between 2017 and 2022.
Following a hearing by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS), Bose has been suspended from the medical register and will be formally erased from the General Medical Council (GMC) register after the appeal period expires.
The GMC register states that Bose “has been suspended from the Medical Register and may not practise as a doctor in the UK” and that he “will be erased, pending an appeal period.”
Bose had denied the allegations, claiming his conduct amounted to “flirting” and “workplace banter.” However, a jury at Preston Crown Court found him guilty in June 2025, leading to his sentencing later that year.
Following the conviction, Lancashire Police said Bose had abused his position of trust and authority, creating an unsafe working environment for female staff.
Detective Chief Inspector Kirsty Wyatt said everyone should feel safe and secure at their workplace, adding that Bose had undermined that trust by exploiting his senior position to sexually assault colleagues.
During the trial, Bose was described as being at the centre of a toxic and sexualised workplace culture. Prosecutors said he failed to recognise the seriousness of his actions and the lasting impact they had on the victims.
The court heard that several women took sick leave or left their jobs to avoid working with Bose, while others said the incidents left them feeling unsafe at work and less trusting of male colleagues.
