IFFJK Draws 875 Entries From 50 Countries
Srinagar, Jul 29: The inaugural International Film Festival of Jammu and Kashmir (IFFJK) 2026 has received an overwhelming response from filmmakers worldwide, with 875 film submissions from around 50 countries received so far, highlighting growing global interest in the Union Territory's flagship film initiative.
The submission window will remain open until July 30, giving filmmakers a final opportunity to register for the festival's first edition.
Organised by the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) in collaboration with the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), the four-day festival will be held from September 7 to 10, 2026. It aims to position Jammu and Kashmir as a premier destination for cinema, creativity and cultural exchange while offering a global platform for filmmakers to showcase their work.
Officials said the strong response from both Indian and international filmmakers reflects increasing confidence in Jammu and Kashmir as an emerging hub for film production and creative collaboration. The wide range of entries from nearly 50 countries is expected to bring diverse storytelling traditions and cinematic perspectives to the festival.
The festival programme will include screenings of selected films, masterclasses, panel discussions, interactive sessions and cultural events, providing opportunities for filmmakers, industry experts, students and cinema enthusiasts to engage and collaborate.
Beyond celebrating cinema, the festival seeks to promote Jammu and Kashmir's culture, heritage and scenic beauty, encourage artistic excellence and strengthen cultural dialogue through films. It also aims to foster international friendship and cooperation by showcasing films from different countries and cultural backgrounds.
The curtain raiser for the festival was held on July 17, when Chief Minister Omar Abdullah officially launched the first International Film Festival of Jammu and Kashmir and invited filmmakers, artists, producers and cinema lovers from across the world to participate in the landmark event.
