JAMMU, SEPT 17: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has fixed deadlines for completing the remaining works on 6,000 flats approved for PM Package employees across 20 locations in the Kashmir Valley, with directions to hand over completed units to eligible employees in a phased manner.
The decision was taken during a review meeting of ongoing and new projects being implemented by the Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (DMRR&R). The meeting was jointly chaired by Additional Chief Secretary, Public Works (R&B) Department, Anil Kumar Singh, and Principal Secretary, DMRR&R, Chandraker Bharti.
Officials informed the meeting that 5,176 of the 6,000 approved flats have been completed. Allied works, including installation of lifts, construction of internal roads, drainage systems and community halls, are also nearing completion at most locations.
The authorities fixed specific timelines for completing the balance works and carrying out the handover and takeover process. Directions were issued to ensure that possession of completed flats is handed over to eligible PM Package employees in phases, according to allotments made under government norms.
The meeting also reviewed the proposed major repair and renovation works at migrant camps in Jammu, for which the Government has sanctioned ₹82.45 crore. Officials said tender formalities have been completed and the renovation work is expected to commence shortly.
Directions were further issued to finalize a detailed project for upgrading infrastructure at migrant camps, including migrant schools, health dispensaries, internal roads and parks.
The construction of PoJK Bhawan at Suketar was also reviewed, with officials directed to ensure completion of the project in all respects within the current financial year.
Meanwhile, the Chief Engineer, PW(R&B) Jammu, informed the meeting that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for additional flats for Kashmiri migrants at Purkhoo is being finalized.
The Multipurpose Community Hall at Jagti, estimated to cost ₹6.50 crore, has already been completed. Tendering is also underway for new projects worth around ₹20 crore at migrant camps in Purkhoo, Nagrota, Muthi and Jagti during the current financial year.
For the next financial year, DPRs are being prepared for several proposed initiatives, including E-Learning Centres, Digital Libraries, Reading Rooms, Career Counselling Centres, Skill Development and Vocational Training Centres, Entrepreneurship Facilitation Centres, Sports Infrastructure, and Solar Power and Water Conservation projects at migrant camps.
