JAMMU, Aug 7: A fresh batch of 926 pilgrims on Friday left the Bhagwati Nagar base camp here for the annual Amarnath Yatra in Kashmir under multi-tier security arrangements, officials said.
The convoy, comprising 42 vehicles, including 21 buses, departed the Yatri Niwas at 2:59 am for the twin pilgrimage routes leading to the holy cave shrine.
Officials said that with the departure of Friday’s batch, the total number of pilgrims who have left the Jammu base camp for the ongoing Amarnath Yatra has reached 1,44,439.
The 57-day annual pilgrimage to the revered Amarnath cave shrine began earlier this season and is scheduled to conclude on August 28. Security arrangements continue to remain in place to ensure the safe and smooth movement of pilgrims along the yatra route.
