Farooq Abdullah, Mirwaiz Among Leaders Condemn Kulgam Terror Attack on Migrant Labourers

SRINAGAR, Aug 1: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah, Kashmir’s chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and several other political and religious leaders on Saturday strongly condemned the killing of two migrant labourers from Chhattisgarh in a terrorist attack in Kulgam district, describing the incident as an act of “utter inhumanity.” In a post on X, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference said that party president Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had unequivocally condemned the barbaric attack on the two non-local labourers in the Devsar area of Kulgam. The leaders expressed deep grief over the loss of innocent lives and extended their condolences to the bereaved families, while urging that those responsible for the attack be brought to justice. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) announced that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has sanctioned an ex gratia relief of ₹10 lakh each from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the next of kin of the two deceased labourers, in addition to the assistance already being provided by the district administration. The two labourers, both residents of Chhattisgarh, were targeted by terrorists in the Kilam/Devsar area of Kulgam on Friday evening. One died on the spot, while the second succumbed to injuries during treatment on Saturday. Security forces have launched a massive search operation to track down the attackers.
