DGP Nalin interacts with IPS officer trainees, highlights J&K Police's counter-terrorism role

JAMMU: Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Saturday interacted with 21 IPS officer trainees of the 78th Regular Recruit (RR) batch at the Jammu and Kashmir Police Headquarters, where they were briefed on the force's pivotal role in combating Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and maintaining peace in the Union Territory. The interaction formed part of the trainees' orientation programme aimed at providing firsthand insight into the security challenges, operational environment and policing strategies adopted by the Jammu and Kashmir Police in one of the country's most sensitive regions. During the session, the DGP highlighted the immense sacrifices made by J&K Police personnel over the years in the fight against terrorism. He paid tribute to the martyrs who laid down their lives while safeguarding the nation and emphasised that their courage and commitment continue to inspire the force. Prabhat also briefed the young officers on the evolving nature of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and the comprehensive operational strategies employed by the police to eliminate the menace. He explained how intelligence-based operations, close coordination with security agencies, modern technology and sustained community engagement have strengthened the force's counter-terrorism capabilities. The trainees were informed about the operational challenges faced by the police in difficult terrain and hostile conditions, as well as the importance of maintaining public confidence while conducting anti-terror operations. Senior officers shared their experiences from the field and explained the significance of professionalism, discipline and ethical policing in ensuring lasting peace and stability. The DGP encouraged the IPS probationers to uphold the highest standards of integrity, dedication and public service throughout their careers. He stressed that leadership in policing demands courage, compassion and a people-centric approach, particularly in conflict-affected areas. The interaction concluded with an engaging discussion, during which the trainee officers exchanged views with senior police officials and gained valuable insights into the operational and administrative functioning of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
