New Delhi, Aug 8 : A 32-year-old man allegedly posing as an IGI Airport employee has been arrested for cheating a woman of over Rs 3 lakh and promising to secure a cabin crew job for her son, the Delhi Police said on Saturday.
Police said the accused, Rajeev Kumar, was arrested on August 6 in Madhu Vihar, where he worked as a security guard at a retail store. They said the woman came in contact with the accused through social media in July 2024 and he allegedly introduced himself as an airport employee and offered to arrange a cabin crew job for her 20-year-old son.
He subsequently demanded money, including security deposit, documentation charges and recruitment formalities, on various pretexts, police said.
“The woman transferred Rs 3.03 to the accused through 16 UPI transactions between September 17 and December 26, 2024,” a senior police officer said. After receiving the money, the accused allegedly failed to arrange the job and stopped communicating with the woman. He also blocked her on social media, police said.
Police registered a case, conducted technical analysis, tracked financial transactions and carried out field verification to trace and then arrest Kumar. During interrogation, the accused disclosed that he had deliberately impersonated an airport employee to gain the confidence of job seekers and collect money from them.
Police said he deleted chats and destroyed the SIM card used in the alleged offence. Police recovered a mobile phone and bank-related documents linked to the cheated amount from his possession, adding that further investigation is underway.
