CM Omar Condemns Kulgam Terror Attack, Announces ₹10 Lakh Relief for Victims’ Families

SRINAGAR, Aug 1: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday strongly condemned the terrorist attack in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district that claimed the lives of two non-local labourers and announced an ex-gratia relief of ₹10 lakh each for the families of the deceased from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. In a statement shared by the Chief Minister’s Office on X, Omar Abdullah described the attack as a “dastardly act” and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives. The Chief Minister said the financial assistance of ₹10 lakh per family from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund would be provided in addition to the ₹6 lakh immediate relief already sanctioned by the district administration for each bereaved family. Expressing his heartfelt condolences, Omar Abdullah assured the families that the Jammu and Kashmir Government stands firmly with them during this difficult time and will provide all possible support. The attack took place on Friday evening in the Kilam area of Kulgam, where terrorists opened fire on two non-local labourers, both residents of Chhattisgarh, resulting in their deaths. Following the incident, security forces launched a massive search operation to trace and apprehend the terrorists involved in the attack.
