SRINAGAR: The BJP has opposed the Jammu & Kashmir statehood resolution moved by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the Legislative Assembly, objecting to references that it says could reopen the debate over Article 370.
BJP legislators raised objections in the House and said they would not support any discussion that seeks to revisit the constitutional changes related to Article 370.
The opposition came during consideration of the resolution seeking the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. The BJP also objected to references to the 2000 autonomy resolution included in the text.
The disagreement led to heated exchanges and protests by BJP members, resulting in disruptions in the Assembly proceedings.
The National Conference-led government has maintained that the restoration of statehood is a key issue, while BJP legislators have said the House should not use the resolution to reopen matters related to Article 370.
The Assembly is continuing discussions on the resolution amid the differences between the ruling party and BJP members.
